TeaHouse TOKUNAGA
Green tea from URESHINO, JAPAN
SCROLL
Tokunaga Seicha is on a mission to spread Japanese tea throughout the world. At Chaso Tokunaga in Ureshino, you can buy a wide variety of the finest Japanese teas. All of the series of products are painstakingly processed in the clean, in-house factory adjacent to the store.
The third generation owner, Kazuhisa Tokunaga, has a unique background, having been a system engineer before taking over the family business. While in Ireland to study dance and music, he made a discovery. Comparing Japan with other countries where the custom of tea drinking is still deeply rooted, he found that they share some common ways of enjoying tea, but on the contrary, they are completely different in some respects. What I keenly realized was the importance of providing Japanese tea to the world at large, so that people with different tastes and preferences can enjoy it. Tokunaga Seicha’s strength lies in its roasting technique, which is based on a careful assessment of the characteristics of tea leaves. Always exchanging opinions with farmers, Tokunaga Seicha strives to create teas that meet the needs of tea drinkers, and has won numerous awards in domestic and international contests.
The store offers a wide variety of teas, including the finest green teas, black teas, and green teas with herbs, and the steamed tama green tea with tea leaves curled up like a ball, which is unique to Ureshino, is especially popular. The traditional kama-yaki tama-yokucha is made in the traditional way. The traditional kamagayaki tamaryokucha is made in the traditional way. The tea leaves are roasted to an exquisite degree of roastiness using a craftsman’s skill with an antique machine that does not have a thermometer. Its slightly fragrant, soft flavor combined with a moderate bitterness leaves an elegant aftertaste that is impressive. Steamed Jade Green Tea, on the other hand, has a bright jade-like color, deep flavor, and refreshing taste.
